Water supply

The water department is committed to ensuring the quality of your water. Our sixteen wells draw groundwater from the Watchung Basalt, Brunswick Shale and Stratified Glacial Drift. The wells range in depth from 94 to 566 feet and provide the majority of our Drinking water throughout the year. During peak demand we sometimes purchase water from our new interconnect with the New Jersey American Water Company. The Essex Fells Water Utility provides water to four municipalities.

Wastewater treatment

Our local wastewater system is maintained by the water utility. Wastewater is delivered to Caldwell’s Wastewater treatment facility for treatment.
