John was born in 1961 and is a lifetime resident of Essex Fells. (Yes, he is one of the kids from that "Big King Family" in Essex Fells.) After being prepped for college at Seton Hall, John received a BA degree from Boston College. (Pre Flutie) He then spent several years wandering aimlessly as a single man, until one day he discovered Kelly Sullivan of North Caldwell in The Ringside Pub. The two were wed in 1992 and moved back to Essex Fells as homeowners in 1993. Since then they have been blessed with three children: John Nelson (15), Emily Francis (13) and Kaitlin Elizabeth (6). The family now resides on Devon Road.
John makes his living as a contractor. His family has been in the paving business for three generations and asphalt has gotten into John's blood. Today he is a partner in the firm Micro Pave Systems, Inc., a municipal pavement maintenance company.
When John moved back to Essex Fells in 1993 he joined the Essex Fells Fire Department where he is still an active member today. He is also completing his third, three year term as the Borough's OEM coordinator (Office of Emergency Management). John feels very fortunate to be a part of the Essex Fells Community. He views volunteering for the Borough as an honor and not a chore. Serving on the Borough's Council not only gives him another chance to "give Back", but also an opportunity to learn more about the Borough while looking out for the best interests of its' citizens.
