Project Notice: Installation of PFOA Treatment System
Posted September 04, 2024On June 17, 2024, the Borough of Essex Fells awarded a $1,876,000.83 contract for the installation of a perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) treatment system that will remove PFOA at our water treatment plant in West Caldwell, which is currently offline.
The improvements to the Borough’s West Caldwell water treatment plant are being financed by the New Jersey Water Bank (NJWB). The NJWB is a State Revolving Fund program jointly administered by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank (NJIB) and uses a combination of funds provided by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the DEP, and the NJIB to provide very low interest loans to borrowers for environmental infrastructure projects.
This project will provide water quality benefits for residents and businesses in Essex Fells, Caldwell, North Caldwell, and Roseland. The new treatment system will remove PFOA from the water supplied by the two wells associated with this plant. This will allow the Borough to bring the two wells back online, increasing our water system’s capacity while maintaining its ability to supply water with non-detectable levels of PFOA.
State Revolving Fund programs around the nation provide states and communities the resources necessary to maintain and improve the infrastructure protecting our valuable water resources nationwide.
