Councilman Bernard D’Avella

Bernard (BJ) D'Avella grew up in Essex Fells, and returned to live in town in 2010 with his wife and family. He has been a member of the Borough Council since January, 2018, and currently serves as Chairman of the Water Committee. He is a volunteer firefighter with the Essex Fells Fire Department and has been an officer of the Fire Department since 2016. He has also served as an officer of the Essex Fells chapter of the New Jersey Firemen’s Relief Association since 2015. BJ is the President of the Essex Fells Recreation Foundation and has served on the town's Recreation Department Advisory Committee since 2013.

BJ leads the Life Sciences Consulting Group at Paul Hastings LLP and works out of the firm’s New York office. His work concentrates on legal and regulatory compliance in the commercial, medical, clinical, and patient services functions of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies.
